Funny story –

I had a whole post already written before this one. All I had left to do were edits, picture inserts, and posting. And then…I deleted it.😱

“Why would you do that?!”

I know! Tell me about it!

At the time the topic came to mind for the other post I knew it was God trying to work something out in me. I thought he had finished that work and I was ready to go. Apparently I was wrong. I believe he stalled me from posting that previous topic for a specific reason.

That reason came in a dream.

(Yes, God can speak through dreams…see below for just one example!)

When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him. -Matthew 2:13

The previous topic was about the words others say to us and how they can easily become what we use to identify ourselves. We can spend all our lives trying to dig out of a deep pit that we have allowed others to put us in based off of who they say we are.

And that is simply not healthy!

The dream God brought to me revealed something odd and I wasn’t quite sure what it meant at first. This is how it went down:

In the dream was a guy that I went to school with. He was one of the guys that said some really hurtful things to me on a consistent basis. I can honestly say to this day I am still affected by his words and I don’t know why.

In this dream, however, the guy was there and we were working on a project in a barn together (as grown adults now). He was being kind towards me. We were laughing and smiling. There was compassion and kindness in his eyes. I asked him straight out “why were you so mean to me before?”. But before he could answer, I stopped him.

I told him it would have to wait until we saw each other again because I had to go. Upon saying this I knew we wouldn’t see each other again. I knew I would not have closure. But I had this calming feeling. This sense of peace just washed over me. I felt like I didn’t really need to know the “WHY” behind his actions. And then…I woke up.

An “about-face” was in order.

I can’t exactly remember how it came about for me to put it all together but God brought forth the truth as he is known to do. I realized that God does not want me to wallow in the past. He doesn’t want me to focus on the negative ways people made me feel about myself. He no longer wants me to give power to those words that hurt me so bad. God wants more for me.

God is preparing me for an UPRISING.

Here is what came to me in prayer on this revelation:

God is doing a U-turn in my life. The old thought pattern that I have lived with so long is being erased. The victim mentality will no longer be welcome. I will no longer say “I am this way because of such and such…”. No longer will my past shame have power over my present life. There will no longer be an excuse to so readily hand out. I have decided that bringing up my current issues and relating them to the past experience I had because of someone else will no longer be tolerated. There will be no invitation for a pity party in my house!

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world! – John 16:33

We are lifted up.

God wants you lifted high. He wants your thoughts to be on him and what HE thinks of you. Victory and freedom are his gifts to you. Live in these gifts. Let peace flow through your heart. The next time you feel thoughts of how the past has broken you, change your thoughts! Don’t even say the name of the person who made you feel less than. Don’t give them that power. Instead, think of how God has risen you out of that pit of being a victim. When you are saved by Christ you are a new creation. The old has passed away.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! – 2 Corinthians 5:17

Let the past remain right where it belongs – IN THE PAST! You no longer live there. God wants so much more for you today and beyond. Do you believe it?

He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, and he set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm. – Psalm 40:2

When that devil try’s to remind you of your past you remember this:

He delivers me from my enemies; surly you will lift me above those who rise up against me; you rescue me from the violent man. -Psalm 18:48

Freedom is ours.

God has called us to walk in freedom. We are a new creation therefore, the past no longer has its chains on us. We are no longer slaves to sin and to the past. God has cut us loose.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by the yoke of slavery. – Galatians 5: 1

We are free to start a new life. Here and now. A new life based around who God says we are.

Who we truly are in Christ.

So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. – Galatians 3:26

Created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. – Ephesians 4:24

You are the light of the world. -Matthew 5:14

You are a friend of Jesus who shares his knowledge of God with you. -John 15:15

We are God’s workmanship created in Christ to do good works. – Ephesians 2:10

You are greatly loved. – Romans 5:8

We are citizens of heaven. – Philippians 3:20

You and I are chosen. – 1 Peter 2:9

Let us move forward in the future GOD wants for us!

Who’s with me on this? Who wants to join me in the walk of freedom and peace and celebrate this life God wants us to enjoy in abundance? I see you raising your hand, sweet friend, and I cannot wait to start this new glorious life with you!

We are no longer victims, but we are VICTORS in Christ!
