What is going on in this country?
Anyone else here just grotesquely disgusted with the hate?
Even the snide comments…goodness! You know the ones. Where someone posts or says something sarcastic portraying that they are not for the new president. I guess I would ask these people where their faith was. Seems to me they’ve lost it. I mean…who are you believing in? Who are you putting your faith in? The president or God? Did God not use unqualified individuals continuously throughout the bible to bring about his great plans?
Love one another.
I guess I don’t see what’s so complicated about that direction.
Because that’s exactly what it is…a direction.
Most of us probably even say it’s the best direction to go. Yet here we are. Off in left field somewhere distracted by our own thoughts and feelings. Too distracted to realize that we aren’t even in the same vicinity we were directed to go.
Here’s what I think: REEL IT BACK IN.
Get back to the basics.
You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature, rather, serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. Galatians 5:13-5
Did you catch that?
Set free from your old ways. The entire law summed up is: LOVE. You will destroy each other if you do not STOP.
I mean…come on! Who’s with me here?
We are going to have varying opinions. Not one of us is exactly the same.
I find all of my beliefs and values on biblical principles. To me that is the only way to go. I believe God is in control always. I believe he can use any leader, presidential or otherwise, we have. These are MY beliefs. I am firm in them.
Consider this a moment.
When we claim the “Christian” name we affirm that we are committed to living as Christ.
Correct? If I’m not correct in that assumption please…voice that now!
Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Philippians 1:27
Heavy ain’t it?
Now use that one single verse there as if it were a microscope.
Slide your life right up under that shiny piece of scientific equipment.
Not pretty is it.
Reread the first verse we went over. The law is summed up in one single command. The command to LOVE.
And not love ourselves…but love others!
So can we agree that loving others is a manner that is worthy of the gospel of Christ?
I’m sure Christ didn’t mean only love those who think, look, act, and sin just like you. Cause we all sin. Right?
Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belong to it, do you submit to its rules? Colossians 2:20
There are going to be “Christians” out there who do things that don’t line up with the word. They believe things that blatantly go against what the word says. Yet, they call themselves Christians.
Now, I can get all mad or offended and have an argument with them but we are called to love.
So how loving would it be for me to blow up social media and call them out because they think differently?
I don’t write this thinking that I am this perfect Christian. I write this from the standpoint that I too am in need of the very grace and love that God offers.
Because not only am I as much a sinner as the rest of the world but I too felt the deep and disastrous need to make comments among the political madness. Multiple times I have been ready to tear people limb from limb. Up one side and down the other. I could join the fist pounding, tantrum throwing, verbally convicting hot mess everyone is in. I have some truth-filled Word to back up every comment I could of made to show them how I don’t think God would look at what they are saying and doing favorably.
But I don’t.
Instead I don’t want to join the quarreling.
Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. 2 Timothy 2:23-24
Plus I don’t think joining in would make much a difference anyway. I’ll pray and let God do my fighting.
Don’t take your eyes off the prize; the complete law of God: Love!
Pray with me.
Thank you, Father, for the grace you give us and the mercy your show us time and time again. Turn us from our wicked ways. When we can’t seem to overcome our fleshy desire and we can’t seem to reign in our tongue be the power within us. Fill our hearts, Lord, with your word. Give us your desires. Give us the words and courage to speak life into the world around us. Let our hearts be filled with so much light that’s all others see. Lord, we pray for the leaders of this country. May your will be done through them. We know that you can use even the weakest link to bring about your kingdom. May they glorify you.
In Jesus name, AMEN.
