I, for one, enjoy wiping the slate clean. I enjoy getting a new calendar and cleaning out old things to have room to start fresh. In fact I even created a list of planners perfect  for the busy woman! When we start a new year it’s like a whole word of possibilities is right in front of you and you get yet another chance to “get it right.” We get a chance to be the best version of ourselves we can possibly be with over hundreds of New Years resolution ideas to choose from! Who wouldn’t love that?

Every new year people set “resolutions” or “goals” (which is what I prefer to look at them as). They contemplate where they were in previous years and decide where they want to go in the upcoming year. They make a list of things they want to accomplish or change. There are a ton of New Years resolution ideas to choose from!

There are many options out there for new years resolution ideas. Here’s a “Top 10” list of the most popular ones. One possibility might be to learn something new. Expand the mind. Stretch the knowledge already obtained from previous years. Exercise the great big muscle that sits atop our shoulders. Which is great…for your mind. A more popular possibility for many people is getting healthy. Losing weight. Eating better. Adding more exercise to the daily grind and getting in tip-top shape. Which is great…for your physical body. There’s resolutions for healthier relationship, career advancement, creating a side-hustle, etc. The list goes on and on.

  • A Resolution of Faith –

What about your soul? Are you going to put in the time to make that new? We, as human’s, get so lopsided. We typically only focus on those things which make us more appealing to the outer world (i.e., things others can see, our physical body, skills we can perform, etc.). But I’m here to tell you, making yourself balanced by working on your spiritual body will be the most fulfilling New Years resolution you ever set and your life will never be the same again! And – it’s a great “roll-forward” resolution (as mentioned in My Final Resolution post) since you keep growing in your faith from year to year.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here. -2 Corinthians 5:17

So what does that mean exactly? What does that look like…to be made into a new creation?

If you are not a Christian, are a “seasoned” Christian, or are a “new” Christian – we all have room for growth. ” Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God,” -2 Peter 3:18. We aren’t to remain stagnant in our walk and relationship with Christ. The goal is to gain more knowledge of him and his ways. In growth we learn to be obedient to his calling and learn to trust him more and more. Here are a few steps to take starting at the very beginning.

  • Not yet saved –

If you have yet to give your life to the Lord and ask him into your heart – start here.  Ask God be the Lord of your life. Confess with your mouth that Jesus died on the cross for your sins. Welcome him to be your savior and to guide you the rest of your life. Welcome Him into your heart and give him reign over your mind, body, and spirit. Just release it, sister! From that point on a new creation will start forming. Also, I encourage you to tell someone about your decision for Christ! This is good news – it should be shared! This is one of the New Years resolution ideas you can put on your list – Get saved!

  • “New” Christian –

If you have been saved and completed the first step above, then the next step is to love Jesus and have a relationship with him. So, what does that look like? The best way to get to know who Jesus truly is is to read about him, talk with him, and be around others who know him. Get in the word, pray, and seek out a Christian community (you can pray God provides one!). Aren’t quite sure on how to study the bible? I walk you through it in this post!

  • “Seasoned” Christian –

If you have completed the first step and you are amidst the second step (cause let’s be honest, relationship with Christ, community, prayer, and study of the word is constant in our growth) then the next step is to live it out, friend. We are called to love people (to sum it up). “Love people right into the Kingdom” is what I like to say. Love them so much that they want to know why! Another way to grow as a seasoned Christian is to guide other believers in their growth. Find those people who are on step 1 or step 2 and help them in their walk with Christ. We are a body! “Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

You know how when you workout it changes you body and it can even change the health of your internal organs and the health of your mind and other things along with it? Well, when you are being made into a new creation by God He works on many facets in your being. Just like when you work out – it’s hard to change a single muscle group during a routine. Usually when you workout you are changing many different things in the body. When God changes one thing in you many other things start changing in response to a singular change. Like a domino effect if you will.

Asking the Holy Spirit into your life will ensure that you have a helper. Why do you need a helper? Because you aren’t just going to wake up tomorrow being someone you don’t recognize. It takes effort, work, commitment. Again, just like when you start a new workout program. Typically you have a “coach” of sorts. You could of hired someone or you have done all the research to figure out what exercises you need to perform to get the look you desire. You had to calculate what types/amounts of foods you needed to ingest in order to get the results nutrition wise. Think of the Holy Spirit as your coach – your “Faith Growth” coach!

  • Tools for those just beginning the faith journey –

If you are on step one or two above, or if you are on step 3 and are just curious – let’s get you situated with a few good options to start you on the path of faith growth. In this post you will find a few options for bibles I recommend. You will also find in there different ways to study the bible, apps I use, and my very own unique bible study technique. So basically – everything you need to get started! Once you’ve got your tools situated you can start reading and learning!

I would start by reading the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John). These all account the story of Jesus but in slightly differing ways. Next I would read the “Pauline Epistles” (Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon). These will give you a good idea on how to live a Christian life. Then I want you to remember the fruits of being transformed: “But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” – Galatians 5:22-23 And finally, never quit!

Just like with any new change it won’t always be easy. Everyday you will need to renew your commitment to living for Christ and not for yourself. Reach out to like minded people, fellow believers, people who will support you in this new way of living. Trust me, you will never be the same from this day forward. You are forging a new path. A path that leads to eternal life and the greatest joy. “You were taught to put off your former way of life, your old self, which is being corrupted by it’s deceitful desires; to be renewed in the spirit of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” – Ephesians 4: 22-24

We have a wonderful tribe of women who love Jesus with all our hearts and look forward to meeting you!

Reach out to me! I would love to walk this life with you!  You can catch me here on the blog, over on Instagram, Facebook, or even Pinterest!

Love this! “…when you are being made into a new creation by God He works on many facets in your being. Just like when you work out – it’s hard to change a single muscle group during a routine.” Such truth. God never limits growth to one facet or relationship. It seems that when God is involved, everything is growing toward holistic transformation!
